Toyota’s AI Breakfast Bots: Cooking Up Innovation in Robot Kindergarten

 

In an innovative method known as a “kindergarten for robots,” Toyota Research Institute (TRI) has used generative AI to teach robots how to prepare breakfast. The objective is to increase the variety of trained skills. By the end of 2024, they want to reach a total of 1,000.

Toyota’s creative strategy is similar to the robotics research carried out by other businesses. For instance, Google is adopting a similar learning-through-experience approach to develop its Robotic Transformer, RT-2. Tesla participates in similar research projects as well. The fundamental idea is to provide AI-trained robots the ability to infer and carry out tasks with little supervision, much like giving general direction to a person.
