An in-depth preview of the OnePlus 12 before its global launch

OnePlus has officially introduced the OnePlus 12 in China, boasting a top-tier model that surpasses the RAM capacity of my recent desktop gaming PC. The base model of this flagship smartphone flaunts 12GB of RAM paired with 256GB of storage. However, for Chinese buyers opting for the highest-end variant, a staggering 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage are offered. As for international configurations, OnePlus is yet to confirm these details for its launch scheduled in “early 2024.”

Apart from its remarkable RAM, the charging capabilities are also impressive. The OnePlus 12 supports rapid charging speeds, accommodating 100W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging—a feature notably absent in the OnePlus 11 lineup. Based on our prior experience with the OnePlus 11, the 100W fast charging is expected to convert to around 80W in the US. Furthermore, the OnePlus 12 houses a 5,400mAh battery.

The OnePlus 12 boasts three cameras on its back: a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 64-megapixel periscope telephoto lens with a 3x optical zoom, and a 48-megapixel ultrawide lens. Naturally, they have the Hasselblad logo on them once more, and a 32-megapixel selfie camera is included. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the newest flagship processor from Qualcomm, powers the phone. The phone is available in green, white, and black. It is rated IP65, which is a slight improvement over the IP64 rating of the OnePlus 11, for dust and water resistance. Practically speaking, this means that while it is still protected from dust and other solid particles, it should now be shielded from water jets as opposed to merely splashes.

The only time frame that OnePlus has provided for the phone’s worldwide release is “early 2024.” Nonetheless, rumors point to a possible late January release. In China, the base model of the phone, which comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, costs ¥4,299 (about $606). Packed with 1TB of storage and 24GB of RAM, the top-tier model costs ¥5,799, or approximately $818. Details regarding the price for other countries are not yet available.
